Key concepts
We deep-dive into core areas in scouting such as physical and mental traits, positional play and opposition analysis, youth scouting, the role of player agents, and strategic squad planning. The goal is to build a sharper, more holistic understanding of how modern scouting works.
To improve, we truly believe it is crucial to continuously practice as a scout by performing scouting tasks. The sequence is always the same: understanding the context, evaluating the footage, writing the report, and reflecting by absorbing feedback. You will evaluate full matches, screen individual players and create in-depth evaluations, just like professional scouts do.
One part of our Academy is about actually getting better. The other part is almost equally as important: becoming more visible. You will build your own scouting portfolio, meet people from the industry, and compete in a scouting competition (in which the top performers are announced publicly). The last three weeks of every quarter are devoted to increasing your visibility.
Within the Academy, you’ll closely interact with like-minded people who share the same mission: getting a foot in the door in professional football. Together, you’ll discuss what works, exchange advices, analyze football situations, expand your network and encourage each other to land a role as a professional scout.

Practical assignments
Simulated assignments that mirror professional scouting tasks
Scouting tasks
Every one or two weeks, you’ll perform a scouting task. We’ll alternate between different types of tasks: full match analysis, individual player screening, and final stage in-depth evaluations. The rhythm is always the same.
- You read the task description.

- You reflect on your findings.
Analyzing football situations
Every week, together, we’ll evaluate one highly interesting football situation. You’ll watch it numerous times, analyze what happens, and answer questions about the situation. Later, you’ll reflect on your findings by reading and watching expert opinions on what happened, and discussing the situation with others. By improving your ability to analyze football on a micro level, you’ll better understand what happens on the pitch.

Tutor of this course
Marco van der Heide is a former professional football player and the founder of 360 Scouting. After his active career, Marco has become a video scouting expert, spending thousands of hours analyzing matches and players.
For almost ten years, he has worked for professional clubs, individually or through 360 Scouting. At AZ Alkmaar, he reported to current Liverpool head coach Arne Slot as their opposition analyst. As a video scout, Marco worked for various clubs, ranging from Champions League teams to second-tier clubs.
Time investment
In the 360 Scouting Academy, you’ll attend masterclasses, use scouting platforms, perform scouting tasks and interact with tutors and peers.
The time investment is 3-6 hours per week depending on the academy schedule and your availability. You are flexible to spend more hours if you want.
Course program
The course curriculum per quarter is structured per quarter (13 weeks): first 10 weeks of theory, practice and masterclasses, and then 3 weeks of increasing your visibility as a scout to show and update what you’ve learned.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. You can get started at the first day of every quarter. The Academy is built in quarterly cycles, so you can join four times per year.
You can either subscribe for a month or a year.
- If you subscribe for a month, you have the whole month to decide whether or not you want to stay or leave for the next month.
- If you subscribe for a year, you’ll go through the whole cycle of all the positions and focus themes we cover (and you’ll get a discount).
There is no end. We will keep providing learning materials for the years to come. You are welcome to stay as long as you want.
In one year, we’ll cover all the positions and topics, so if you want to cover all of them, subscribing for a year would be a good choice.
In the first 10 weeks of every quarter, our main focus is on improving skills and knowledge. In the last 3 weeks of every quarter, the main objective is to increase your visibility towards clubs.
This academy is specifically designed for (aspiring) scouts who strive to continuously improve and set the next step in their scouting career. The academy offers many opportunities to learn, improve and connect with others, and heavily improves your chances of landing a (better) role in professional football.
Marco van der Heide is the founder of 360 Scouting and creator of this course. A former professional football player with over a decade of experience working with top-tier clubs as a scout and analyst.

The academy takes place in an online environment which consists of two parts.
- A community with the main focus on interaction and learning together.
- A course with the main focus on providing learning materials.
All activities combined will take you about 3-8 hours per week on average, although there are possibilities to spend more time, such as through your personal access to scouting platforms such as Impect and Scoutastic.
Most activities in the academy can be performed or watched in your own time, when it suits you. Interactive masterclasses and group video calls will be organized in different time slots and will be available on-demand afterwards.
All content, including video lessons, assignments, and live Q&A sessions, will be conducted in English.

Yes, when you are part of the academy and will apply at a professional club, we are happy to provide a letter of recommendation based on your participation in the academy, and Marco would be happy to be listed as a reference.

However, we cannot guarantee that you will obtain a job at a professional club as it both depends on your level and a club’s considerations.
